Final Capstone for Learner Diversity Module

To complete the capstone for this module you have a choice. You can decide how you want to demonstrate your understanding of the content in the Diverse Learner module.

  1. Choose one of the options below
  2. Watch the video at the bottom of the page to learn more about the UDL Exchange
  3. Open your Diverse Learner Plan that you developed for your focal students. Use it to guide you as you explore the UDL Exchange.
  4. Complete the sections in your Digital Portfolio.


option 1

Option #1 - Select a lesson, map the barriers/enablers, match the lesson methods and materials to address the strengths/needs of your focal student.

  1. Launch CAST's UDL Exchange.
  2. Choose a lessons that matches your content area or an area of interest.
  3. Use the Barriers & Enablers Organizer to evaluate the lesson.
  4. Then add any enablers you think are needed to reach the needs of your focal student.

option 2

Option #2 - Select a lesson, map the barriers/enablers, remix the lesson methods and materials to address the strengths/needs of your focal student.

  1. Launch CAST's UDL Exchange.
  2. Choose a lessons that matches your content area or an area of interest.
  3. Use the Barriers & Enablers Organizer to evaluate the lesson.
  4. Then remix the lesson and add any enablers you think are needed to reach the needs of your focal student.

option 3

Option #3 - Create your own lesson with the methods and materials needed to address the strengths/needs of your focal student (enablers).

  1. Launch CAST's UDL Exchange.
  2. Choose an upcoming lesson or a lesson that you've taught recently.
  3. Use the Barriers & Enablers Organizer to evaluate your lesson.
  4. Then use the UDL Exchange to create your own lesson with the methods/materials (enablers) you think are needed to reach the needs of your focal student.


Once you have completed this assignment, you will be ready to move on to Module 5, which focuses on creating the environment for learning. You can begin by going to 5.1 Introduction to Modules 5, 6 and 7.
