5.2 Module 5 Overview

Introduction

Educators are expected to utilize technology tools and applications to improve student engagement and performance. Tech ready classrooms include both teacher and student use of technology, and involve the integration of best practice instructional categories to improve teaching and learning.

As teachers prepare for administration of the online assessments, teachers must know and model the tools, best practice instructional categories, and ISTE Standards-T to put theory into practice. The nine categories of best practice instruction as defined in the "Using Technology with Classroom Instruction that Works, 2nd ed." pedagogy will be introduced over the course of the next three modules.

In Module 5, you will be reviewing the three categories of best practice instruction that are part of the Red Zone: Creating the Environment for Learning. The three categories in the Red Zone are Setting Objectives and Providing Feedback; Reinforcing Effort and Providing Recognition; and Cooperative Learning. Tools and ideas for integration into the classroom will be presented to support the categories.

Goal

Prepare teachers to implement the best practice recommendations for integrating technology in the Red Zone: Creating the Environment for Learning

Learning Objectives

  • Understand the classroom recommendations for each category;
  • Make connections between and among the categories and strategies, and the technology tools that support them;
  • Transfer the learning into specific changes into pedagogy that will be applied in the classroom.

Module Outcome
