Free Assessment Tools Challenges
A couple of challenges exist when creating online assessments in the free platforms that are available.
- They are not conducive to technology enhanced online assessment items. A current work-around is to create links within your assessment item to the online simulations or manipulatives that are necessary to complete the item.
- They are not easily accessible to the diverse learners that need specific accommodations within the assessment platform. At times, you may have to combine multiple apps or resources to allow for accessibilities. As one example, you may have to create a link to a Vocaroo (free web 2.0) or GarageBand (free app) recording for each problem so that the student can click on the embedded link or icon to have the problem read to them. You will have to use some creativity and possibility team up with your Special Education teachers to provide the best learning experience with the online platforms.
